Special Event
Bridlewood Wine Dinner - April
24th
Bridlewood Winery
and The Cellar are teaming up for a Four-Course Wine Tasting Dinner
on Thursday, April 24th, at 6:00 pm. Bridlewood is a
great winery from the Central Coast of California and they are
serious about Syrah's. We will be pairing food with, and
tasting their Viognier and 3 different Syrah's. In addition,
Bridlewood is planning on bringing a few extra taste treats for
us. The cost is just $39 per person - a great bargain. Make
reservations early as we have room for just 25 guests for this
event. See you there.

From The Kitchen
This
Weekend's Entree Special
Fresh Catch From Hawaiian
Waters
This
week Martie will be bringing in the Fresh Catch from one of our
favorite suppliers: The Honolulu Fish Company. The only issue is
that we won't know until tomorrow what the Fresh Catch is, so all I
can say is that it will be excellent, and you can call as of
Thursday to find out what the Fresh Catch will be and how it will be
prepared. We look forward to seeing you. Enjoy!
By the way, the picture above was
taken at the Pike Place Market in Seattle, where customers often
have to literally catch their fish when one of the fish mongers
throws it to them. If you have not been there, go - it is a
great place loaded with fresh fish and fun.

For the month of
April, Our Featured
Wines Are:
-
2005 Rueda
Verdejo Castillo de Nava - A very nice
medium bodied wine from Rueda, Spain. This wine goes well
with most foods as it is so well
balanced.
-
2005 Five
Star Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon This great
wine from Walla Walla received 92 points from Wine
Spectator, and has heady aromatics of dark cherry and
spice highlight the nose. Bright blackberry fruit combines
with vanilla notes mid palate framed with good acidity. The
finish shows off well integrated tannins with a hint of
clove that lingers. Well worth trying!
Our Featured wines are 15% off by the bottle, and
specially priced at $5.50 per glass for the Castillo de
Nava, and $11.00 per glass for the Five Star Cab, an
excellent price. Try them - expand your palate!

Dinner
Menu
Mondays: Prime Rib
Nights - This is the night that Jon
prepares a remarkable Prime Rib and we also
offer 10% off on all wines by the bottle purchase with
the Prime
Rib.
Tuesdays: Margarita and Martini
Nights - 15% off all Margaritas and
Martinis.
Wednesdays: Ladies Night - 50%
off all entrees for ladies, with the
following important rules: 1) make reservations 24 hours in
advance; specify you are coming in for Ladies Night;
2) ten or fewer
(total) guests, regardless of the gender split; and
3) no other
discounts.
Thursdays: Wine
Nights - 25% off all wines by the
bottle when purchased with dinner. That is a
great savings, and I am hoping that it will encourage our
guests to try new wines that may have been a bit more
than they wanted to spend before.
Weekends
- Chef's Specials from the kitchen. Every weekend
Martie, Jon, and the kitchen staff create special items for
our dining enjoyment. I usually announce them here in
CellarNotes, and your server will also fill you
in. |

Cellar Cooking Classes
Last night Martie held a Sauces and Dressings
Cooking Class for a small group. It was a huge success,
so we plan to start offering similar classes on a regular
basis. Here is the premise: Martie teaches and demonstrates
techniques while the participants learn, taste the
results, and enjoy a bit of wine for a fun and educational
evening. Stay tuned for future class dates.
Join The Cellar Scotch Club - Starting May
1st
(with Charter Member - Mick
Ohman)
 Here's
how it works. Jared Dooley, our most esteemed Bar
Manager and Scotch lover, along with the extreme expertise of
Charter Member, Mick Ohman, will identify and have in
stock 12 (to start with) nice Scotch's. You become a
Scotch Club Member when you have tasted them all and
received appropriate recognition (a wall display we are
creating) and a little reward. Just let Jared
know you want to join the Scotch Club, and he will track
your membership progress for you. And, as
the membership grows, we will add Scotch's to the list for
your enjoyment, and, you can taste the list over and over
and receive gifts for each time you complete the list. Expand
your palate even more and join The Cellar Scotch
Club.
Qwahitas
 You may
have seen the article in last week's River City
Weekly about Bryan and I playing music together as
Qwahitas. I thought that was very cool of them to do the
article, and just wanted to add that I used to really enjoy
playing games and having fun with my kids when they were
young. But today it is beyond fun. To taste and
learn about great wines, and to have deep conversations with
my youngest son, Sommelier Paul. To spend time with
Nicole and Logan in Las Vegas where the fun
involves geology, unique restaurants, and stimulating
conversations. And - to play the
guitar with a vocalist as talented as Bryan is
(and I'm not even biased, hee hee), where we
play some of each other's favorite songs and
get to spend a different kind of time together (BTW - Bryan
also is quite knowledgeable about wines and helps a lot with
The Cellar's Wine List) --- these things are pure joy for
me, and I know for Michele as well. Last night one of
our participants at the Cooking Class, Bryan
Forsmann, said I was his hero because of being able to do
these things with my kids. What a compliment, thank you Bryan.
Indeed we are lucky, but I think every parent is lucky as
they enjoy and are grateful for their children. This
past year we saw two sets of parents we know lose one of their
children, and we re-realized how delicate life is.
So here's a bit of advice I know you've heard before but
it's worth hearing again: be grateful for your children
every day -- love and enjoy them all you can and
while you can.
PS - Qwahitas is playing at Vino Rosso tomorrow
(Thursday) evening. Don't cancel plans to come to The
Cellar if you have them, ha ha, but if not, we would
enjoy seeing you at Vino.
